Like the lost city of gold, the aptly named “El Dorado” is something of a forgotten model in the '60's Epiphone lineup. It was more expensive than the “Texan” which was famously used by Paul McCartney and is essentially the equivalent of the Gibson Southern Jumbo. Epiphones are now thought of as Gibson’s budget import line, but at the time, Gibsons and Epiphones were made side by side in the same Kalamazoo facility! Another distinguishing feature is that the Epiphone counterparts used a slightly longer scale length which gives it extra power especially when strummed. Definitely a sleeper in the world of vintage acoustics. This example was made in the first half of 1965, so it still has the wider 1 11/16th nut width as well as the adjustable ceramic saddle, same as Paul McCartney used.⁠
