Hi, my name is Scott Tsai
and I'm the owner of Queens Vintage Guitars. I’ve been in the industry for over a decade and have been lucky to handle some of the finest vintage and handcrafted instruments ever made. Originally from Queens, NY (hence the name), I made Philadelphia my home after falling in love with the city during a visit and set up my vintage guitar shop in the Bok Building in fall of 2023.
My journey into the world of vintage instruments really started in high school when I took up guitar and became passionate about the instrument after discovering the music of Tommy Emmanuel. My guitar-playing habit became a vintage instrument obsession when I wandered into Retrofret in Brooklyn, NY after college.
My first strum on a vintage guitar changed everything—it was warm, woody, and clear without any of the shrillness of a new guitar. I ended up buying a 1951 Gibson LG-1, an affordable entry into the vintage world.
Eventually, I applied for a job at Retrofret, where I worked for five years managing social media, running the repair shop, and buying inventory. I spent another five years selling guitars on the side before finally opening my own vintage guitar shop in Philadelphia.
I hope to recreate the feeling of my first vintage guitar experience for others and to help players of all levels find their ideal instrument. If you’re local, come by and visit! And if you’re far away, message me to learn more about the instruments I carry and how I can help you find your dream guitar.
