In 1950, the ES-140 was released as Gibson's only new electric model of the year. It was "an exact three quarter size replica of the ES-175" or "just a shadow of the regular cutaway" that was released the previous year. It was designed for youngsters as well as adults with smaller fingers. Despite being 3/4 size, it was still a throughly professional quality instrument and cost $140 upon its introduction. It features the same thicker body as its big brother. The model was made until 1956 when the body was thinned out and reintroduced as the ES-140T.

This is a fantastic example from the first year of production for the gigging musician. It was almost certainly owned by a jazzer in the past as it has a couple mods that make it more usable as a daily player. For example, it has a strap button installed at the heel, volume and tone pots with longer taper. It even came with 12 gauge flatwound strings! We can set it up to your preference with different strings if desired. It still maintains its original 50's charm and tone with the original finish, pickup, pickguard, and tuners.

These short scale, full body thickness ES-140s sound surprisingly similar to the ES-175. We actually prefer it to the full size version because of its shorter scale length, making complex chords a breeze to play. It also has a faster response and snappier tone thanks to its smaller body cavity.

Best of all it comes with the rare and original brown/pink lined "Cali Girl" Lifton hardshell case, making it the perfect travel companion!
