James Sturner is a great luthier based here in Philadelphia building vintage inspired instruments with a modern spin. This is the 1129 bass, which is his take on the classic Stingray design. It features an ash body with maple neck and wenge fingerboard. The tone is full and direct thanks to the Stingray style pickup and Seymour Duncan pre-amp. The 3 control knobs (volume + push/pull slap switch, midrange, concentric bass/treble control) provide a wide range of highly useable sounds. The attention to detail is apparent throughout; everything from the polished brass nut to the matching headstock and stinger are done with care. The neck is substantial and contributes to the solid feel of the instrument overall. If you're looking for a great sounding and playing hand made Stingray style bass, it doesn't get much better than this. Comes with a black rectangular hardshell case.
