The L-10 model was introduced in 1931 because Gibson didn't have any affordable alternatives to their top of the line L-5, which cost a hefty sum of $275. These early L-10's are a fantastic deal for players in the know because they sometimes used the same bodies as their more upscale siblings.  Of course Gibson had to differentiate the models in some way, which is why these are painted black. The black finish is quite sleek in our opinion!

This is a great example of an early 30's L-10 because it has the highly desirable solid braces as opposed to the more common kerfed bracing that Gibson started to implement at the time in order to save money. Kerfed bracing is referring to where the braces under the top are cut slightly so that they can be bent to fit the shape of the carved top. Kerfing saves time in the production but the result is that the braces are not as strong, therefore the downward pressure from the strings cause the center of the top to sink. With solid braces, they are carefully carved in order to fit the top. The top on this example is in excellent condition with no sinking as the two sides of the f holes line up perfectly.

Another fascinating depression-era feature are the "picture frame" inlays on the fretboard. Like many other companies at the time, Gibson was eager to save money so they cut out the inlays from unused banjo fretboards and inlayed them into guitar fretboards.

This guitar is in fantastic condition overall with hardly any wear to the finish. One of the finest L-10's you can find.
