R. Hyde is a talented custom bass luthier who also happens to be located in the same building- The Bok in South Philadelphia. He is a former builder at Ken Smith basses with over 20 years experience. The Soul Machine is his most popular model and is the perfect hybrid between a Fender Jazz Bass and a Parker Fly. The body is hand carved and contoured to be thin and sleek, weighing in at just under 7.5 pounds. It has a great resonance to the body and feels very solid. The single coil Nostrand pickups and controls are the familiar layout of a Jazz bass. The neck profile splits the difference between a J and P measuring in at 1 11/16" at the nut, 0.86" at the first fret and 0.93" at the 12th. It is a very comfortable rounded C profile with soft rolled fingerboard edges. This is an ideal instrument for anyone seeking the classic tone of a Jazz bass but at a much lighter weight and with a sleek modern look.
