Michael Gurian is one of the fathers of the modern luthier movement. Prior to this, guitars were mostly built in factories like Martin, Gibson, or Guild. Now, players could order custom instruments made to their specifications by a single luthier or a small shop. Paul Simon is one of the most prominent players of Gurian guitars. Gurian was also in the business of importing tonewoods so they had access to the best materials for their own guitars. This example was made in the Hinsdale, NH factory featuring a sitka spruce top with rosewood back and sides. It has a larger "jumbo" body but is still very comfortable to hold and play thanks to its pinched waist. The playability is excellent and is setup with fast, low action for fingerstyle playing. Gurians are some of the most underrated instruments and we're happy to see that they've gained more popularity in recent years.
