In the early 1930's, the bright strident tone of the tenor banjo was slowly being phased out of jazz band rhythm sections in favor of the warmer, softer tone of the guitar. The Martin tenor guitar was originally marketed to banjo players that were looking to make the transition but didn't want to relearn a new instrument. In 1932, Martin even increased the scale length to 23" to better match the typical tenor banjo. In the 1950's, groups like the Kingston Trio helped bring the instrument further into mainstream popularity. 

This 0-17T is in beautiful original condition with no repairs or breaks. It originally retailed for $25 new in 1933. It features an all mahogany construction with a subtle shaded burst on the top. The original saddle is untouched at full height. The playability is great up the neck, the bar frets are in excellent condition with no wear. The original Geib soft case is in excellent condition with the original handle intact. It even comes complete with a set of books on how to play the tenor banjo! This might be the most affordable way to get into a 1933 Martin and is a beautiful, playable piece of history.
