The Silvertone 1357 was an early Danelectro design made for Sears, Roebuck & Company. Introduced in 1955, it is often referred to as a "peanut" guitar due to its smaller transitional 11 3/4" width body size. It features a lipstick pickup mounted in a single cutaway body made from a pine or poplar frame with a Masonite top and back, all covered in vinyl. There are two knobs, one tone and one volume. For a single pickup guitar, it is amazingly versatile. The original lipstick pickup combined with the "hollowbody" design provides a very organic, airy sound. The three-way toggle switch is for tone control, tone kill and tone bypass. The neck is a fairly chunky D shape measuring 0.89" at the first fret. Overall this is a great sounding and very cool piece of early Danelectro/Silvertone history.
