The D-35 was first introduced by Martin in 1965 as a way to use sets of rosewood that were typically too small for Dreadnaught construction. It was the first new model from the company in 30 years, since the 1930's. By 1974, it was their top selling instrument, even over its better known sibling, the D-28. Even though the body size and wood combination is the same as the D-28, it has a distinct voice thanks to the lighter 1/4" top bracing. The D-35 model is very open and woody sounding and are among the best models from this era.

This guitar has all the traits of a well loved and well traveled instrument. There is plenty of finish checking, pick scratches, and light dings throughout. It's had a refret in the past so it plays great and only has light wear in the first position. The action is set at 3/32" on both sides with still some room for adjustment at the saddle. The tone is woody and open with pleasing overtones and sustain making it a great choice for strumming and accompanying the singer songwriter. There are two well repaired cracks on the top- one is the typical b string/pickguard crack from the pickguard shrinking over time, the other appears to be from case bite at the treble side lower bout. The rosewood back and sides are crack free and just have some light wear.  Overall, it's a beautiful classic Martin that has the patina and tone of an instrument that was well played and cared for over the last 50 years.
