The Yamaha SG series first debuted in 1973 as a line of solid body, double cutaway electric guitars. They ranged from entry level models with bolt on necks, up to the now legendary SG2000 which was used by Carlos Santana on his landmark recordings from the late 70's to early 80's. The SG800s (also known as the SBG-500 in the US) was introduced in 1981 and features a set neck construction with dot inlays on the fretboard and exposed pickup bobbins.
This example is from the first year of production and is remarkably well preserved! It's had a thorough setup and the frets have been leveled and polished for super low action. The set neck construction gives it a very nice solid feel. The pickups are very versatile; the bridge is bright and clean, serving as a nice foundation for effects while the neck pickup is perfect for warm jazzy tones. It is ready to gig and comes with a gig bag.
